In response to a recent public query by new migrants to Australia about the high income tax system in Australia, the Australian authorities issued this statement: We understand that it is hard for some immigrants to fathom the income tax system in Australia. Indeed, income taxes are sky high here. We use a progressive tax system ranging from 17% to 47% of your gross annual income. Now, let us put it in a more palatable way for you. Many of you come from poor, developing countries. Many of your children are malnourished and sickly. Yes, we know. We have seen them in those 'Dollar-a-day' ads. Who sponsors these children? We do. Australia's heart bleeds profusely for your children. Now, it is your turn to support us. Think of the high income tax you're paying as supporting our society. No. we don't have malnourished kids. Our kids are as full as a lactating tit. We do, however, have 2 groups of people in Australian society that need your help: Abos and Junkies. No, they're not malnourished. No, no, they're not sickly. They're too lazy to work. They want something for nothing. And as Australians, our bleeding hearts compel us to accommodate them. So the next time you immigrants feel like complaining about the income tax you're paying, think of the Abos and the Junkies. For every paycheck you receive, you will be at the same time supporting an Abo and a Junkie. The more money you make, the more Abos and Junkies you can support! Now, doesn't that make you feel good?
